Links would not open in outlook express, but got it fixed

by cfal In reply to Links in outlook

I had the same problem in Outlook express. None of my links would open inside an outlook express email and I had tried every fix I could find and nothing worked until I found this Fix. It worked and everything is back to normal.

Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows 98
1. Double-click the My Computer icon on the desktop to start Windows Explorer.
2. On the View menu, click Folder Options.
3. On the File Types tab, click URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol in the list, and then click Edit.
4. In the Edit File Type dialog box that appears, click the OPEN entry in the Actions box, and then click Edit.
5. In the Editing action for type: URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol window, click to clear the Use DDE check box.
6. In the Application used to perform action box, type %1 at the end of the string so it looks like the following example (the drive and location of Iexplore.exe may be different):
"D:\Progra~1\Intern~1\iexplore.exe" -nohome %1
7. Click OK, click Close, and then click Close.
8. Quit Windows Explorer.
9. Quit all versions of Internet Explorer.

Links would not open in outlook express, but got it fixed

by cfal In reply to Links would not open in o ...

It didn't take long to find out my last fix only works untill I reboot. After I reboot it must be done all over again.
It only takes twenty seconds but was getting real upset with the whole thing.
I tried several mor fixes and no change untill I got an email from "Registry Machanic" telling me it was time to renew.
I had run R.M. only a few weeks ago but figured it can't hurt to run it again before it runs out. So I did and it also wanted to know if I wanted to "Compact and Optimize the Registry" and so I did " Whala" I found a problem with "outlook express"
When it was done I checked and rebooted and checked again. So far it works even after shuting it off and restarting.

Hope this helps.

Is this a new thing...

or have you just recently started using Outlook and have discovered that links won't open? What version of Outlook?

If the latter, you probably need to scrounge through the Options (located in the Tools menu) to enable links in messages. I believe links are disabled by default. It may also be that you need to press CTRL while you click on the link in order for it to open. The default in some versions of Outlook.
