Linksys WAP54G thru Netgear Prosafe VPN Firewall router

By pvfpd.madsen ·
I have searched here for awhile now and I am still unclear as to how to fix this.
We have two Linksys WAP54G ap's on the network. Both have assigned address's. I cannot access them using the web interface. When I open up the router interface and it does not list them as attached devices. The software cd see's them, but I can not ping them nor open them up. They do function because we are able to use the wireless with them.
We have a Netgear 24 port ethernet switch going to a Netgear Prosafe VPN Firewall router.
I can access the router web interface just fine. I am not always in a position to use the cd to access them. What am I doing wrong?

This is driving me crazy. Nobody wants to help the dumb guy? Come on, I am just a poor firefighter trying to save our dept some money so we don't have to lay firefighters off any sooner than we have too! Should I dump the netgear? what?

Question on this.

by sidekick In reply to Linksys WAP54G thru Netge ...

How are the APs connected to the network? Are they connected directly to the firewall/router, or are they connected to the switch that I assume the rest of your network is on. I'm also guessing that the computer you are using to try to connect to the APs in on your local network and is conected to the switch. Basically, I'm trying to figure out if the APs are on the same logical network as the computer you are using to try to connect to them.

Also, I don't know if you are trying to connect to them through a wireless connection or not, but most APs don't let you manage them over the wireless connection. You need to be on the wired network. This is a security precaution.

Thank you for the reply. They are both connected thru the switch. And all the computers I try to use are connected to the switch. And I have never even tried to use the wireless to connect to them.

Right IP address?

by sidekick In reply to Linksys WAP54G thru Netge ...

It sounds like you are doing everything right. I would check the IP settings again using the software CD. Also make sure the subnet mask and default gateway match the rest of your network. Also, if the IP address on the computer you are using starts with 192.168.1 and the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 (I'm guessing this is the case), try 192.168.1.254, the default address of the WAP. You may also want to consider resetting them and starting over.
