Linksys WPC11 card with Win XP Professional

By JohnGreer ·
I'm having trouble with a Linksys WPC11 wireless card on my IBM laptop now running Windows XP Professional. The card worked fine under Windows 2000 Pro, but doesn't work now that we swapped HDDs and now run XP Pro. The card also runs on a different laptop running XP Home.

I can see the card, using the Linksys Config Utility - it shows Excellent Quality 100%.

I suspect something in the XP Pro system/network settings.

HELP!

If you read the manual for linksys it asks you not to use their configuration utility if you are running XP. I would suggest you go to add\remove programs remove the utility and then go to device manager and remove the drivers. Then the take the card off and restart the machine that way there is no evidence of a wireless card. Shut down the pc again insert the card and let XP install the card on its own. If you have the same problem make sure there are no bridges, firewalls running. If you Norton's remove script blocking services, password validation, and antything related to networking or internet through "MSCONFIG" services tab. That should fix your problem.

Where do you see that?
I've looked at the Download Page For
WPC11 - Instant Wireless Network PC Card
and the doc at ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pdf/wpc11ug.pdf
doesn't mention XP.

But, the Driver Download page http://www.linksys.com/download/driver.asp?dlid=37&osid=6 has a specific XP entry (which I used). That download contains XP drivers AND an XP Config Utility.

Page 13 and 14. Where it begins the Windows XP driver installation you will see a grey box\bubble. In there it states to Windows configuration utility.

Also page 6 says in the same type grey box\bubble Windows xp user continue to the hardware installation do not install the software.

sorry it states do not install the configuration utility.

Reason being is that windows xp has its own configuration utility. I guess if you both they conflict.

I verified with Linksys that my card is v1, not v3.
Thanks anyway.

I believe we're talking about 2 different versions of the card. I was talking about the generic WPC11, you're talking about v3. You may be right, I'm not sure. Do you know how I can tell if my card is v3? It doesn't say on it...
