Linux boot process ...

Hi,
I'm doing a report on the Linux boot process vs. the windows boot.

I know windows pretty good but I'm not as familiar with Linux. So I'm looking for any websites that will help me understand and explain the boot process in Linux.

a good place to start is the Linux Documentation Project, you can find just about everything there.

Describes the boot process in detail. Also I think there is a relatively new HOWTO at the LDP that explains some of booting. Other than that it is helpful to read the man pages on lilo, init, getty or mingetty, login, and the shell such as bash.

Nothing is easy. Different distributions do the boot process differently. RedHat describes their SysVInit flavor quite well in their User's guide. Here's a link for their 6.2 version:
