Linux & DirectPC

By mjdove ·
Is it possible to run EarthLink / Hughes DirectPC thru a RedHat(v7.x) Linux box?
DirectPC is currently shared thru a Windows 2000 PDC (Primary Domain Controller). I need to rebuild this PDC, but need an Internet connection for downloads during the build / patching process.
EarthLink is using a USB device - Hughes DirectPC IDUR1 / IDUT1.
What, if anything, can you suggest?

copy all the important data files onto a linux box, configure the serverware that comes with it, remove the win2k machine from network server position, put linux box there and connect, reboot the linux box, if it doesn't recognise all the connectinghardware, ( not likely, my redhat 7.2 found everything no problems) then svae data files and reinstall linux with all hardware attached. if still no joy pull harware profile from win2k machine and manually configure the devices not working. best to do over a weekend as nework won't be available if problems.

connect the win2k machine as a workstation, can rebuild the server and still get online with it if need to download any missing or newer files.

personally, would use linux box as server permanently, it is faster and more stable., can download and install upgrades without even turning it off.
