By chandrashekargr ·
After installing linux, the windows desktop setting goes haywire. The screen is enlarged and certain portion of the screen (10%) is visible.

H/W config:
-----------
Pentium 200 MMX.
32MB ram.
1MB vram.
8gb hardisk.

Linux install?

You need to reconfigure X-Windows ... you can do this by running 'xconf' or 'xconfigurator' at the # prompt ... if you are using redhat / mandrake 6.x you can also run 'setup' from the # prompt then scroll down the menu to X Configuration. You will need to know as many details about your graphical setup as possible.(i.e. memory on video card, make and model of vid card, refresh rate of monitor etc.)
Hope this helps.
Good Luck,

It sounds like your virtual desktop is much larger than your actual screen size. You can use ctrl-alt-+ (on the numeric keypad) to switch to a different screen setting. If that solves the problem you can change the default by going into xconf and when it lists the availiable settings for each colour level (ie 256) you can change the default by editing the setting and choosing the new screen size first then the other choices afterwards.
