With Linux, as with Windows NT, you can set up a Dual-Boot Partition. This will require you to use empty space not occupied by Win98, but Win98 will no longer be able to access that partition of your disk. If you run the Linux install, if kind-of walks your through taking that empty space so that you can set up a second partition. If all else fails, you could always get your hands on something like Partition-Magic.

Good Luck!

What I would do is first, back up your hard drive on a CD burner or a bunch of floppies. The problem is that linux has a dual boot loader built in; Windows does not. Unfortunately, if you want to save your Windows, you have to:
1) Back up your hard drive
2) install Linux
Using Linux, make a Fat32 partition for Windows. Reinstall Windows
What I did is buy "Partition Magic 6.0." I now run 6 O/Ss on my Compaq Presario. Look up VMWare.com - this allows you to have a Linux window and Windows window on one screen
good luck !!!!!
