Linux + MS Proxy

By schotty ·
I am going nuts on this one. I have an NT 4.0 box running MS-Proxy 2.0 . All of the win9x and NT boxes need the client software (of course). AFAIK, there is no Linux/Unix ports of this software. I was referred to Dante, however that has about zero documentation, and all the trick I have tried ended in failure to connect. I need the linux box to do email and web browsing as well as remote X sessions from work into my home box. If I get somewhere, Ill dish out the points. Even if I find out that it is impossible.

Linux + MS Proxy

Do you have physical access to where your proxy server connects to the I-net. This is what I did. I assume you have like a dsl connections to the internet or from and isp. Get a simple 3com 4port hub take the cat-5 cable from the router or dsl thatis providing your I-net. You might have to port 4 and turn off or on x over depending on your setup. Then plug a patch cable from one of the ports back into the proxy. Now you can run a patch cable from your patch panel into the hub. Or if your *nixserver is right there directly to the nic. Now your *nix server sits outside of your proxy server. Change your default gateway to be the ISP connection and Wham you can get to the Inet. Of course you will need An IP address to assign to your box if you plan to remote connect or setup some sorta vpn. If you are running a PIX or other FW you might be able to setup a vpn through that.

Good Luck

Linux + MS Proxy

I was thinking that, but I was hoping for a software based solution. Well, thanks though. I will have to run a second CAT5 line to a second NIC. It is a desktop box. Once I get more machines that need a *NIX server, I *WILL* do your way. There is no way in **** each PC is getting a second nic and line :)
