Local users cannot logon

By phil.boss ·
My local users when they try to logon get as far as the logon script which hangs at the end. I think that the SAM for my domain may be corrupt but I do not know how to repair it, can anybody help? We had to rebuild our PDC as it died in a major way.We promoted a BDC but it did not make any difference.
We have a load of remote users who logon via CITRIX and they have no problems at all logging on and running logon scripts

Local users cannot logon

by Richard Lane In reply to Local users cannot logon

I'm not convinced that the SAM is the problem...the fact that the users are gtting to the stage of running the scripts would indicate that the security validation has already taken place. Are all the users running the same script? The Citrix usersalso? If the scripts are different, it may point to that particular script file, or even at a more granular level with whatever the script is calling at the time it hangs. If the PDC died majorly, and the script was already corrupted and replicated across the BDCs, the promotion would not clear the problem.

Hope this sheds a little light.

Richard

We have over 40 different logon scripts used by local and remote users alike, they all run to the end then hang but only when local users try to logon.
Current thinking this morning is that we may have a corrupt WINS database because if we replace the servernames in our logon scripts with the relevant IP address the script runs fine??

Why don't give us a prove of your logon script ?

Maybe we could dig in further ...

If I can figure out how to close this off I will, cos we solved it, for some unknown reason or WINS setup became corrupted across teh network causing all manner of odd problems, so we have rebuilt all of that and a couple of servers and all is slowly getting back into order again.
Turns out all of the login scripts are fine as they ran locally etc. All in all it has been a very odd problem which we still do not understand the reason why it happened??

Thanks to all who have answered as this has been my first time using this part of Techrepublic.com

IF you are convienced that it is the SAM try restoring from tape backup. This might be the quickest way to get your users logged back in again.
