Lock Down Desktop Icons

By pm-irl ·
I have locked down all our W2k workstations using group policy. The one item I have problems with is being able to lock the desktop items i.e. to stop users adding icons or shortcuts. If anyone has suggestions on locking the desktop from new icons or shortcuts I would be grateful.

Policies and Ghost?

by dlandrum In reply to Lock Down Desktop Icons

I have W98 workstations and I use MSPolicy to control who can get to what when. This allows me to control what they access on the servers, but you are correct, the desktop installations are a bugger. They will always tell you that they don't know how that got there, they certainly didn't do it. I have had people tell me that Ghost will take your master configuration that you specify and each time the end user boots it will put that policy in place.

I doubt that you can do anything about them downloading stuff - - other than disallowing ftp but that won't fix things that are not downloaded via ftp.

Probably the best you can hope for is that if you institute the use of Ghost, they will eventually get tired of re-doing what ever it is that they are doing.
