Locked Thinkpad 770

By happy.snapper.man ·
I have an old IBM ThinkPad that I have dusted off after 2 years and want to give to son but cant remember the password. Some people have suggested backdoor passwords which I'm actually working through. Replacing mother board or hard disk has been mentioned too.

Any ideas?

Cheers

First of all, the best place to ask technical support questions would be the Technical Q&A forum.

You would also nee dot offer some basic info.

Is it the BIOS password that you can't get past?
Of the Windows administrator login?
If so,what operating system is it?

IBM does havae a FEW default passwords, but for the most part it is a protected motherboard where the code is in the chipset and can only be changed by either IBM or a system board replacement.

Tech Q&A with some more information is your best bet though.

Some default passords depending on BIOS type, but manufacturer BIOS and security changes will usually overwrite them.

recover thinkpad password (resolved)

by dreamerstarone In reply to Locked Thinkpad 770

To recover bios password on thinkpad you have to soldering wires on eprom and connect to a db9 on a second computer to get the password. You can change the eprom with a virgin one. Here at http://ordinateurs-usages.com/ we can do it for you. Come to see us at store or just send the laptop by mail.
