In Win98 SE, I am having a problem with the Network Logon box and Win password box. It seems that whenever the PC is booted, either password box stays on the screen for 4 seconds then disappears. Windows continues to load, then I must log off then log back onto log on successfully.
I believe the problem is related to passwords because when I try to add to the remote admin box in PW's, I receive an error msg saying it cannot open address list. Does anyonehave anyidea how I can reset the PW'sor address book it is looking for?

Absolutely! What you need to do is run a search for *.pwl and delete everything that it finds. This will force Windows to prompt you for a password the next time you log on and will fix your password problems.
Secondly, you may way to consider deleting everything from the network applet and then reinstalling it. For example, delete the Client for Microsoft Networks, TCP/IP, or whatever protocols you're using. After this, reboot the machine and then reinstall them and reboot again. Everything should be fine at this point.
I would suggest you do both of these things first and then try to set up your network again. It's really strange, but it works.
Try (1)Deleting all of the *.pwl files on your machine (2)Dumping and reinstalling client for MS networks (3) Just for giggles, check out MSKB Q141858 and see if deleting the logon key in the registry helps out any.
If you're asking for technical help, please be sure to include all your system info, including operating system, model number, and any other specifics related to the problem. Also please exercise your best judgment when posting in the forums--revealing personal information such as your e-mail address, telephone number, and address is not recommended.
