HP.com

Since Compaq's use OEM and proprietary motherboards, your only 'realistic' source for a new BIOS is Compaq themselves.

Go to www.hp.com
click on the support link, and follow the links for Compaq support.

If money is no object for this upgrade, you may be able to get a custom BIOS from a 3rd party supplier such as www.unicore.com
Expect to pay around $70 for a custom BIOS.

If you can tell us why you desire a BIOS upgrade, we may be able to suggest alternate solutions.

Not possible

by GuruOfDos In reply to looking for bios upgrade

The machine in question is a 486 DX2 66 processor based machine. The BIOS program is stored in ROM and not in a flash/EEPROM device, therefore reprogramming of this chip is not possible. There is no updated ROM available from Compaq/HP as this machine is too old! If you wish to fit a bigger hard disk, you will have to use overlay software such as Ontrack Disk Manager or Western Digital's EZDrive.
