loss of email/contacts

I have I have just replaced our exchange server, I have all workstations logged in and seems to be working ok so far except for my w2k workstations. My question is this: do those emails/contacts for the w2k workstation reside on the exchange server or do they reside locally like the w98/me workstations? I have copied the profiles and I still have nothing. Especially for 1, I need them back if possible.
