Locked not working. Need to backup before reinstalling.

My has stopped responding. No matter what I do it crashes every time I try to open it. Talking to some experts, they advised me to reinstall the application. I am worried as I have not setup the Time Machine backup and there are some email folders that are important. I have no backup of them. I wanted to know how can I backup the email folders and contact lists as well if I am going to reinstall the application?

Please help.

What have you done to try and fix the problem? Do you know that you will have to reinstall all of OS X? Buy a suitable drive to use as a backup drive. Then use a good backup utility to make the backup.

I never knew that I would have to restore my Mac Osx completely. Thanks for the heads-up. Now about the backup utility, I tested all the tools you have mentioned and it seems like Mail Backup X is topping in all the fields. This application has multiple options. One suffering with the same situation as me should definitely go for mail backup x. Thanks for the solution.
