Mail box Limits

By AdminRumson ·
Does anyone know what is the suggested limit is for mailboxes on an exchange system? We have a company who currently has no limits however I remember reading some where about limiting to below 2GB for restore and performance issues.

The 2gb size is the limit for pst and ost files. Exchange limit recommendations from ms can be seen here (for exchange 2000):

Cheers.

It really depends on how beefy your server is, how many mailboxes are on it, and how fast your information store is growing. I limit my users to 30MB. Many companies have unlimited mailbox sizes, but that's a **** of a nightmare and I don't recommend it. For a small organization (under 150 users) with a fairly beefy dedicated Exchange server, you could probably do 1GB without too much trouble.

The larger the mailbox, the slower any mail operations will be. Since my #1 complaint from users is response time, I'm draconian about my limits - but I have 2500 mailboxes, too.
