Mail Merge Word XP/Outlook XP

I have Windows 98 and Office XP. When I try to do a mail merge with contacts from my Outlook Address Book, I get an error message saying: “Cannot complete due to a dialog or database error. Try again later”. Could this maybe be due to the fact that I’m not using Windows XP?
This is exactly the same question as christy@drgfirm.com on 10/30/01 (see her message “Mail Merge Wizard in Word XP”). The 3 answers on her question have been rejected, so I suppose they didn’t help, although the question was closed on 5/6/02. Who can help?
