Mail srores going offline?

By morad6336 ·
What will cause the mailbox stores to dismount in MS Exchange 2003? This seems to happen everytime there is a restore to database or backup (my own observation). The exchange admin states that the issue was with the data cable perhaps the NIC card. I beleive the issue is with improper Volume Shadow Copy service not properly implemented or non existent.
Could you please clarify the issue? Will loss of connectivity cause the dismount?

What event IDs are being reported?

If you mount mailbox stores and are using a recovery storage group, they must be dismounted. See

I am unable to view the event IDs as I am not the server admin of that particular server.
I am just doubtfull that a loss of connectivity will cause some of the stores to dismount and others to stay mounted (belonging to information stores). The issue may be with improper restore procedure, which will need to be addressed, the connectivity issue may not be true...
Any ideas?
thanks again

Connectivity should not cause a store to dismount as the communication between the server and the store is all on one machine. Drive space, file size and improper restore procedures can cause dismounts though.

I know I have not fully answered your question but there is only limited information listed here. I would start with checking that there is sufficient drive space available for the stores and the logs. If exchange runs out of log space it will dismount stores as well.

I am about to do it myself, but might be worth you checking.
