Mailbox creation in Exchange 5.5

By stergios_nik ·
Hello.

I have an Exchange 5.5 server. After the creation of a new account (user_A) in my NT domain, the Exchange Server automatically pops up and asks me to create the mailbox for the new user.

I host two domains (domain1.com and domain2.com) on the same server.

Is it possibly for my new user_A to have 2 email addresses:

user_A@domain1.com
and
user_A@domain2.com

I thought to create a distribution list user_A@domain2.com and redirect the email to user_A@domain1.com in order to overcome the problem but the user wants a mailbox in order to perform replies having his mailaddress shown in the From: field.

Thank you in advance.

Mailbox creation in Exchange 5.5

Your first step would probably be to set up Site connectors between your 2 domains, so that each Exchange Administrator console shows both sites....this might help with ease of administration. How do you have this set up? DO you have (2) Exchange5.5 installations, or (2) Site environments within one Exchange installation?

I am fairly sure you can have (1) Network Domain account to have ownership of (2) Mailboxes....if you are happy with just setting up a profile for each of the domains within Outlook, so when Outlook starts up, the user could choose their mailbox from Doamin1 or Domain2.

Yes its possible--you said you were hosting two domains on one server. Any mailbox on that server can then receive mail for either domain if both email address are specified in the user's mailbox properties.

In the Exchange Server Administrator program under Organization\Site\Recipients, select a mailbox and double-click to open the Properties page. Click the Email Address tab, click New, select Internet Address, and then click OK. Enter the username@domain2.com as the e-mail address.
