Maintenance or Expension

By kevin203 ·
Hi everyone,

This treat is to discuss whether to maintain or expend our network environment that is running all the time and how?

I will make my sharing here first. I have a medium network environment here and the documentation are quite messy.

-3 servers run on Microsoft server 2003 sp1
-more than 150 pc's in the HQ
-6 branches thru out the country
-15 retail outlet
-4 factory's
-6 Warehouse

All connected one another using remote access. Variety of software and application is running for all the department and currently we are implementing firewalls and ERP to smoothen the process for distribution, finance and retail. And Fix IP address already applied and running now.

I very confuse on what to start first? Should i proceed with the documentation? maintenance practise? implementation? or security for new ERP? research for better backup system? Of course i want to start with all i mention above but we are short of manpower.

IT here are expending too fast till full load our work flow. Will it be stop from expend or continue and do what we can.

Any comment and advice is well acceptable. And all IT expert are welcome to post here.

Do your road map first

draw a plan of how the network currently is, and another of how you want it to end up. Then work out how you are going to go from A to B.

Assign and set the IP addresses, quick and easy. Then the firewalls to add the security. At the same time you should be able to write your SOPs and have them put into practice anyway.
