Making the switch to Linux

I would like to know of anyone that has switched to any flavor of LINUX as an end-to-end NOS for desktops to enterprise servers. Any savings, any issues, any benchmarks or study findings? Running Oracle RDBMS on LINUX servers? Any info is appreciated.
