Managing Contacts

Is there a solution out there that will eliminate the need to manage contacts in Outlook and an Exchange Server? If a contact changes, right now we have to edit them in our Public Folder as well as in Active Directory. In addition we have Excel printouts that were manually created for each of our Distribution lists, which also require updating. Thanks.
