Marketing Ideas Anyone......

By iland ·
I have recently formed a consulting firm with a partner. We are looking for advice on a few time tested marketing stratagies based on consulting. I have noticed that many business parks have non solicitation policies, does anyone have any tips fornavigating around this.

We do have a business plan in place and have studied standard marketing practice avenues.

Any other tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

The non-solicitation policies deal with walking up and knocking on the door. They don't stop you from using othe "cold-call" methods: phone/mail/ email.

If you've done your market research, you should have a good idea of what your target audience consists of. Of course turning that target audience into a fledgling customer base is the greatest challeng of any start-up. It's more of a challenge when you're selling a service.

Some ideas:
Industry Trade shows (or even a table at the local computer show).
Small ads in industry magazines and newsletters.
Unique (not necessarily gimmick) advertising tools - business cards, capabilities charts, readily available reference lists, etc.
Ad in the phone book - obvious, but needs to be more than just a listing; something to make you stand out from the crowd.

In fact, your biggest challenge will be how to make your company stand out from the crowd. This will require lots of thought and creativity on your part.

I'm probably justreiterating most things that you've already thought of, but sometimes it helps just to have your ideas confirmed.

BTW, I wouldn't suggest you try to sneak around any non-solicitation policies, as at the very least, it could make you persona non-grata and it could land you in trouble with the law.

Good Luck.

Actually, you may have missed a step.
Building up your network of contacts is the key thing you have to do before you get started.
Anyway, you are going to Networld this week right?
If not, book your ticket and go get contacts.

Janet Ruhl has some excellent books about starting up a consulting business. You may want to check into those.
