MCAFEE SECURITY SUITE 6.0

By TABComputers2002 ·
I just installed McAfee Sec. 6.0 on my system. After running updates for an hour, all the apps included are current. I noticed during reboots that the system would come up normal, but once my regular desktop screen and task bar loaded, there was an almost 3 minute delay before the icons on the desktop loaded. The system is a P3, 1Ghz with 256 mem.

Any ideas what could be going on? I searched the docs, but no help there.

Thanks for the help
Tim

What is your OS? If XP, you may not have enough RAM. Especially if your Video card is borrowing RAM to run.

Run MSConfig and remove everything in Startup and see what happens. Add back programs one at a time (only those you must have) to determine which program is causing the slow down.

If Mcafee Suite (sorry unfamiliar with this one) soesn't have AdAware/MalWare abilities you definitely need to run fully updated AdAware 6 from Lavasoftusa and Spybot Search and Destroy from Safernetworking at a minimum.

I run Ad-Aware and Spybot every couple days. I believe the memory is shared with video, but its only an issue with some games.

sorry, should have made myself more clear. You NEED 512 for XP and NONE of it should go to your video card. If you don't have this don't expect any performance, especially if you have My computer\Properties\advanced\PerformanceSettings set to naything but "Set for Best Performance"! I have 1GB and that is the only setting I would consider.

I'm running Windows 2000 (256Meg memory, P3 1Ghz) with all the latest updates. McAfee came with Firewall, Virus Scan, Spam Filter, Privacy Protection and Pop-up Blocker. The problem seems to be some kind of scan, but I can't identify which program is running it.
