When you upgrade your system to W2K Professional and you have Outlook 2000 installed, you MUST (cannot stress this enough) reinstall Outlook before it will work properly; the reason is the change from the FAT32 file system to the NTFS file system requires additional files to be copied. (You don't have to reinstall all of the office programs, just Outlook.) Once you have done this, import the data from your existing outlook.pst file so that you will have all of your data back. The outlook.pst file with your current data will not be erased during the uninstall or reinstall, and when you are ready to import it back in to Outlook it can be found in this hidden folder location: 'C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\outlook.pst' (substitute your username for %username%, of course)!
