Messenger Log Files / Last Logon?

By steve.smithP ·
Hello,

My client believe someone has used his PC for wrong doing by using MSN messenger to send out nasty message. He would like to know if there is a way to view who has logged on to MSN messenger with in the last 5 days.

Does anyone know if Messenger keeps a log of user access? I've searched everywhere but can't find anything.

Thanks!!

- Steve

No, but if you check the Security event log you can check if the user had logged into the PC at the time.

Hence the reason why we do not allow such programs in our workplace....

I do agree that this would help, but my client is referring to his home PC. He currently has it setup with no password. This would show zero accountability in the security logs. Who knows who was who...

So, does MSN messenger keep a log of logins?

MSN Messenger only saves messages if prompted to on an Account by Account basis.

If there are no passwords involved and no Message saving Enabled then your answer is No there is no way to trace any transmission or to find out who was using the computer at a particular time as there are no logs being kept.
