MicroFocus Cobol

By Sunney ·
I am running a Microfocus Cobol program on HP/Unix "L" series machine that reads a text file to parse it. The input file has the carriage return represented by "\n". My program uses the octal representation for carriage return "0D" thus it fails at runtime with error 153 "Subscript is out of range". Any idea how would I handle this problem without changing the input file.

Thanks
Sanjay

Maybe I'm missing something, but your program could check for "\n" or the octal equivalent as it does now for O'0D'. I might just set up a find and replace routine in the input process to scan for and substitute the carriage returns. The source system for the data might also be capable of providing the data in a more usable form, though it sounds like that may be a problem.
