    Microsoft disavowing knowledge of Firefox?

I’m not sure if this is known widely or if it is something new, but I was helping a client over the phone yesterday. I recommend Mozilla Firefox to my friends and clients. This person happened to have an issue with their computer and they called Microsoft first. When asked what their issue was, they said that their MySpace players and such weren’t showing up in Firefox and that Windows wouldn’t allow them to install Flash Player after a Windows Update. The Microsoft tech then said that they had never heard of Firefox, that it was probably causing an issue with Windows and had them uninstall it and use IE.
Could this be? Are there techs from Microsoft that have never heard of Firefox? Or are they actively trying to get less computer-savvy people to not use it by denying its existence?

Your friend could be misquoting or misremembering what the MS tech said. It’s also possible that the tech meant he personally had never heard of FF, and your friend interpreted that as meaning MS hadn’t heard of it.

You’re asking us to form an opinion based on possibly inaccurate third-hand information.
