Microsoft NT4.0 and MS Word

By jonelle76_2000 ·
We have a mix of OSes ranging from Win95 to WinXP and everything in between. All are running on a Novell Network. Recently all 5 WinNT stations had the same problem. No one could save using the save button on the toolbar. Also if you tried to save using the "Save As" feature you were forced to rename the document. this happened each and every time you tried to save. I did not that the problem seemed isolated to word as I had no problems with Excel or Publsher. I have tried to repair office 2000, I have also tried reinstalling and it seems to have no effect. Finally I reinstalled the OS on one machine, but think it a little extreme to do the same to the others until I receive feedback. Please let me know if anyone else has had thisproblem.
Thank you.

Where are the files located that those users cannot save? This sounds like a permissions issue on a network drive, or that network drive might be unavailable or locked. Can the users save normally when editing files on their local drives?

Just a thought -

The save button's function can be intercepted using a macro in Word. Rename the normal.dot to normal.old. When you start Word it will recreate the normal.dot file, but without macros.

Also look under tools macros to make surethat macros are not loading from other sources.
