when outlook out of office assistant is turned on it only posts the out of office message to internal emails only will not send emails to any other accounts

Since you don't say what version of Outlook, I'll give the settings for the latest

Outlook 2007 has separate settings for email addresses inside and outside your organization. To send an Out of Office reply to people outside of IU:

Click the Outside My Organization tab.

Select Auto-reply to people outside my organization.

Choose who will receive an auto-reply by selecting either My Contacts only or Anyone outside my organization.

Enter or edit the message to go to external contacts in the text field, as necessary.

Are you using Exchange?

If yes, allow Automatic Reply to the Internet.
In Ex5.5, it is found in IMC/Connections/Advanced button.
