Microsoft Outlook Application on iPhone

Hello,

This is a question in relation to the Microsoft Outlook application for Apple iphones. Upon installing the outlook app and configuring the app to access email, in the application settings there is a button to toggle on for Contacts. If that button is turned on what does it do with the contacts that are on the phone?

Please let me know if you are familiar with the app.
