    Microsoft Windows 2000 Drive Problem

    by melebisnuessrfwe ·

I put Windows 2000 on my dell (although not what it comes with, it does support it) and I cannot get the video driver installed
on non VGA and VGA Mode I get these 2 errors:
INF Error The driver could not be found
Setup was not able to complete the installation. Try to setup your display adapter with a standard VGA driver before running setup.

But you left out too many details for me to begin.

One of the annoying install issues of W2000 is that a slight smudge on the CD. And there was never a supported method for install from USB drives.

I don’t mind discussing your install failures but have to pause until all the details are revealed.

Final Note: Windows 2000 even with all current service packs must never be connected to the Internet. There are unpatched vulnerabilities that worms and more will infect this install very quickly.

If I needed to run W2000 today I’d install in it a Virtual Machine. It’s been years but I did install it in VirtualBox. Read https://www.minitool.com/news/windows-2000-iso.html

It seems that your video adapter is not recognized or is missing. I hope the following steps will help you resolve the issue:

      1. Verify whether the device manager has your video adapter listed. Else if it is listed, check if it has any issues.
      2. If there are issues with your video adapter, right-click on it and choose ‘Update Driver’.
      3. If you don’t find your video adapter in the device manager’s list, restart your system and check it again. If you still don’t find it, it seems that there is an issue with the hardware. In such cases, contact Dell for assistance.

Initially, you can try installing a generic VGA driver before the exact driver for your video adapter.

If nothing works, you must install a different version of Windows because some hardware components may not be compatible with Windows 2000.
