Migrating DNS from Unix to Windows 2000

By abain ·
We have two DNS servers running on Unix. One of these servers is to be de-commissioned and therefore we need to move the secondary DNS to a Win2K platform. How easy/difficult is this to do and can anybody provide any tips to make this a smooth changeover? All the books I have read seem to tell you how to set DNS up rather than how to migrate it.

Actually, you aren't really migrating as much as you are just setting up another secondary DNS server.

On the Win2K system, install DNS and set up your zones as secondaries to the primary DNS on the Unix box. Once the primary DNS server recognizes the new secondary, a zone transfer should automatically take place. Once you have verified this, you can decomission the second Unix box.
