Migration from Foxpro to SQL7 platform

By hey.namit ·
Hi All,
I have around 95 tables on FoxPro that I need to migrate on SQL7.
These tables are stand alone data tables and are not part of any database as of now.

I have tried exporting these tables into XLS format and then importing these tables to SQL7 using enterprise manager but there are certain constraints that i face in excel and also this would be a bit cumbersome process for 95 tables.

Second option under consideration was a freeware that could enable me to migrate from FoxPro -> SQL7.

or third option as suggested by one of my colleagues FoxPro->Visual FoxPro -> SQL7.

I am looking for either the driver, if somebody can point me towards it or way of migrating stand-alone data tables from FoxPro to Visual FoxPro.

Thanks.

Try importing

Try importing the tables directly from SQL. I think this is possible.

Tried already

I did try importing tables directly using a driver through enterprise manager. It doesn't work probably because tables are in foxpro and all drivers i used were for visual foxpro and unfortunately i couldn't locate a driver from foxpro to SQL7.

Excel ?.

by Tony Hopkinson In reply to Migration from Foxpro to ...

Why not just use csv? Excel is just another opportunity for something to corrupt your data.
Export to and from csv is in everything.

Like the other guy, I think enterprise supports direct import of FoxPro data.

Thats possible...

Hey,
Thanks for the reply.
I did consider this option and this is possible. One point that i mentioned before is that I have 95 tables to take care of and exporting all of them to CSV and then importing them to SQL7 might be a bit cumbersome n i have no clue how reliable in terms of data that migration would be? any pointers ?

Should be able to do it direct

by NickNielsen In reply to Migration from Foxpro to ...

I don't know SQL7's capabilities, but FoxPro tables use fixed length delimited records. I would think you should be able to import them directly. I don't think a bulk import is possible.

Or, as Tony suggested, export from Foxpro as comma-separated variable (.csv) and import that way.
