minmum memory for win98 se setup

By jphifer ·
all of a sudden i can't reload win98 on my system
i have 128mb , but when i type in setup(win98 se cd), i get a dos message that says i don't have the minimum memory required.
the 128mb is recognized in bios.....
i can't format the hard drive with the system being transferred.... it says not enough memory to. but i can format the hard drive and then transfer the system separately....
is there a good program to detect a virus and remove it from the memory

Your not loading the himem.sys from whatever device you are booting from.

You should have a config.sys on the boot device wtih the line:

device=c:\windows\himem.sys

Also if the himem.sys file is not found you will get this same error.

The best way to reload win98 is to use a Windows 98 Startup Disk.

If you can still boot your system into Windows, go to the Control Panel and Add/Remove programs and then the Windows Setup tab where you can create a startup disk.

Or if you have access to the internet, go to www.bootdisk.com and you can download a win98 boot disk image.

McAfee has a free download, Nortons is cheap at any location, Solomon is supposedly the best by their rankings. I'ld have to think any would do the job for you, Norton's is probably the easiest to get a hold of. Good Luck!

Just curious why it did not! .... Shouldn't Windows take over the installation process by popping up a Windows 98 Installation wizard from the moment you insert the Win98 CD? (Autorun feature)
