Missing email

By ctucker ·
When I opened outlook this morning, my inbox was empty (missing 200+ emails). Can still see deleted items, items added to junk mail list, sent items, etc. Ran the scanost.exe tool with no errors in log file. How can I recover email?

It might be a rule that was running. Check your deleted folders. If you are usign ourlook 2003, click on deleted folders then go Tools >recover deleted items and check if they are there.

Did you try and access your email via POP at anytime? (the option" leave copy of email on the server" might not be checked.)

You didn't mention whether you are using Exchange or Internet email or some other setup. If using Exchnge, I would imagine that some nightly backups are being done and you could recover from the previous day.

If you are using exchange, make sure emails are not being delivered into the personal folder\archive folders or not.

Go to open ibox>tools>email account>view and existance should have been selected and hit next look at the bottom left for delivery email location ...change into the mailbox and then move all emails from the unexpected direactory to the inbox.

Lost emails - recovery

You may want to check the "leave messages on server" option so that if this happens again, you can always go back to the mail server to retrieve them, and then see if the issue is with your mail client. That's what I do - never lost an email.
