Missing Utilities - XP Home

By D.H. Cesare ·
Morning.
In the article on Registry Care, the instructions are to go to:
Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tool, System Information, open the Tools menu, and click Registry Checker.
http://www.pcworld.com/howto/article/0,aid,86903,pg,3,00.asp
There is no "Registry Checker" on this XP Home machine.
There also is no "chkdsk" or CheckDisk under System Tools.
Were's my stuff?
Thanx

I checked my XP Pro system and also do not have the tools listed.

Read the article over.
Notice that it states that Windows 98 and Me have these tools. Nothing is stated about the tools being there in XP.

Chkdsk runs from the run or command line prompt.

XP Pro does have another option for checking your system health.

Administrative Tools.
There are a number of utilities under administrative tools that allow you to check on your system.

You're right. I missed the part about ME & 98. I loaded the Tools for XP, but they hid themselves in a secret place and I'm still trying to find them.
I did find a utility for XP that runs a CHKDSK and a FAST defrag when it's activated.
Thanx again.

XP Home vs XP Pro. Just what in **** was Microsoft thinking???

by sleepin'dawg In reply to Missing Utilities - XP Ho ...

Do you ever get the feeling that Gates and his boys couldn't organize a good drunk if they were in the middle of a brewery??? And if you think that's bad take a gander at Media Center Edition. They say RTFM but half of th information is missing. It's supposed to be written by geniuses for execution by idiots but Microsoft decided it might be fun to try it the other way. What a cluster fu*k!!!

It should be a crime for them to charge us good money for a product as full of flaws as Windows is.
