Modems & XP Pro

By scouse ·
I have 2 modems, a HP56/PCTel & a Swann/Flash.
Both worked well on all OS's except XP.
I keep getting an " Incompatibility " memo when installing either modem.
Can this be fixed and/or which Modems are compatible with XP.
Cheers.......Scouse.

Modems & XP Pro

by TheChas In reply to Modems & XP Pro

I have found that some modems do not function under XP with some other hardware configurations.

I have had enough problems with PC-Tel modems, that I avoid them.
I am happy with the Intel / Ambient chip-set modems. But they do not work properly in all motherboards.

Did you download the XP drivers from the modem manufacture?
Or, from the chip-set mfg?

You need the latest XP drivers for any older hardware.

Also, you can have problems if you do not remove the old modems from the modem applet under Control Panel.

For a list of known compatible modems, check out the HCL at Microsoft:
