Unlikely ...

I've never had a laptop that had a removable CPU. They've always been soldered straight into the motherboard.

That's NOT to say that yours won't be removable, it's just that I have my doubts.

The other rather important factor to take into account is HEAT. Every laptop in existence is designed to dissipate the heat generated by the CPU fitted. If you change the CPU it may generate more heat than the laptop can cope with, in which case the system will shut down.

Check with the Manufacture

by TheChas In reply to mother board compatable

I was surprised to find that the AMD CPU in my daughters notebook was socketed.

There also is a heat pipe cooling system that kicks a LOT of heat out the side.

So, if your notebook also has a socketed CPU, before you even shop for a faster CPU, check and see what the manufacture has to say about supported CPUs for your system.

If the BIOS does not support your faster CPU, you will not get any benefit from it, and might even damage the CPU by having the wrong core voltage set.

Keep in mind, that you typically only see 25% of any CPU clock speed increase. If you were able to install a 2.5 GHz CPU, your system might perform up to 10% faster.

If you do not have 2 GB of system RAM installed, start by installing more RAM before changing out the CPU.
