    Motherboard Batteries

    Locked

    by jypsie ·

I recently had an Acer Motherboard replaced under warranty. As soon as I got it back it gave an error message that the battery was low. What could have caused this?

Anytime a motherboard is not powered by the PC power supply, the CMOS back-up battery powers the CMOS RAM and the real-time-clock. This will eventually run down the battery.

To save money, the motherboard repair centers recycle the batteries from the boards they repair. Your replacement motherboard just ended up with a weak battery. It should be nothing to worry about. Replace the battery and verify that the new one does not run down too soon.
