Mouse right-clicks & Pop-up Menus

By kevin.obrien ·
Is there a way in W95OSR2 to disable the right mouse click's ability to bring up a pop-up menu? I need to restrict the user's ability to browse past the normal security settings in the policies by right clicking the MY Computer icon, clicking on New| Shortcut, and then getting into the Windows folder on the C: drive (a no-no for a register user).

Unfortunately, poledit doesn't go that far into restricting the OS. We need to remove the ability to create a new shortcut on the desktop by browsing for files on c: (right-click on the Desktop|New|Shortcut and click on the Browse button). Thanks anyway.

Sorry, but with an enterprise with over 2000 PC-based registers, that gets a bit costly. We're looking for some kind of registry solution to battle this, but thanks for the info. It looks like this is the right kind of solution, wrong price.

As answer 3 is the same as answer 2, the same result and comments apply. Thanks.

I don't think that disabling the right click will solve your problem ......

From a user standpoint, there isn't much else for them to do to get onto the HDD. We've locked everything else down to the point that this is the last possible route to get onto the HDD to do damage (they've found this one, and we've had to re-imageabout 20 registers per park per year as a result). I just need to know how to keep the popup menus from showing up when a user tries to right-click on the desktop. Thanks for the response.

Have you tried going into regedit.exe and
searching via 'find' for either 'menu' or
'new' references. I know in 98SE these will
get you to menu order and keys needing to
be changed to accomplish what your looking
for. Good luck, and feel free to e-mail me
at Scott@Gullys.com and let me know how it's
coming along...

Yes, actually. There are so many references to each (esp. 'menu') that it makes finding and modifying the correct one a bit like disarming a bomb. Thanks for trying though.
