move Ex2k3 standalone to cluster

By samgoucher ·
I will be moving Exchange 2003 Standard from a standalone environment to an Exchange 2003 Enterprise active/passive clustered environment using SCSI attached shared storage. My question involves moving the appropriate information store data from the existing server to the new cluster. What exactly needs to be moved, where does it get moved to and what is the best method of moving it (Exmerge or restore from backup)? We also would like the move to be transparent for our users so if we give the cluster the same IP address and name as our old standalone exchange server will they be able to hit it with no RE-configuration of their workstations.

Thanks!

Why the hard way?

I'm not sure why you would try a backup/restore or an exmerge. Its easy just to "move mailbox" by bringing the clustered instance up in the same org / admin group. While the name & IP address will change, no client changes are needed as the old server will tell them to goto the new server.
