Can think of a couple of possibilities off hand, both using commercial software.

You could use PartitionMagic (ServerMagic for NT Server) which will move partitions for you. Note that you will need to use a bootable (e.g. DOS) floppy since you won't be able to move the OS while it's actually running. PM will create this for you.

Alternatively you could use a drive imaging package such as Ghost to copy your system to the new disk. Once done you can boot into the copy and remove the original. Doing it this way you'll also probably need to add an entry to boot.ini for the new version to allow you to boot it.

As always whatever you do, make sure you take a backup before you start in case something goes wrong. I've found both the abovepackages to be reliable though and have moved an OS with PM before without any problems. Better safe than sorry though.

Just to add to previous, it's occurred to me that since you're moving the OS to another disk, if you use PM berore you start add the entry for the new location to boot.ini, otherwise you'll have problems booting once it's moved.

Personally, I think the easiest way would be a backup, then restore to new disk, then change the boot.ini

The only problem I can forsee is registry entries that may **** up because the drive letter has changed.

You're not providing a whole lot of information here. What are you trying to do? Did you want to copy an entire drive to a new hard drive without having to reinstall an operating system? Use norton ghost or powerquest diskcopy for that. If you just want to take the physical drive out of one machine and place it into another just disconnect the cables on the back of the drive and put it in the same way on the new machine. If it will remain the primary drive then leave the jumper settings as is, if it is to be a secondary drive then look at the little map on the drive to determine where the jumpers should go.
Good luck!

Mike

ps, if this isn't what you want then please post a little note on here describing in more detail what you are after..thanks

The easiest way to do this is,

make a complete backup of the drive using NTBackup. Install the new disk. Slave the old disk to the new. Install clean os on the new drive. Run NTBackup and restore all data required back to the new drive. I know its not flash but it does work!
