MS Access: Calculating a fields value

By wefraz ·
I have an inventory database that I wish to retain actual count of items on hand. The value will change each time an item is pulled from the inventory so, is the present value (PV) is 10 and I use (UV) 2 a calculation of (PV-US)would give me the result of 8. How do I replace the present value in the field with the result?

I don't think it's possible to do it with some kind of formula in the table. What you need is a piece of VBA with recordset of the table to deduct the number removed from (or added to) the inventory, as specified on a form.

Calculate value using a query

Create a query that includes the fields for the inventory base value & the amount used - create an expression field that subtracts the amount used field from the inventory base field. Attach the query to a report. This will give you present value without storing any addtional information in your data base
