MS Access Field #Error and Name?

By jgreer ·
I am been retrofiting the built in event database in MS Access for my company. But now one of the subforms keeps giving me an #Error on one and an Name? on the other. Both fields perform calculations and were working, I have tried to resolve the issue and have had no success. I can email the database if that helps.

MS Access Field #Error and Name?

The usual reason I've found for #error is that you're using a custom function which Access can't quite understand. Make sure the function is either in the current form module or declared as public in an ordinary module.
Name? can mean the same problem has occurred. Access can't find the function or that one of the arguments has been renamed, e.g. field names, etc.
Hope this helps

Hi there,
The answer of John is good. Complementary to his response if it doesn't work, try to Repair and Compact your Database. If you still have the same error, Copy the object under another name and delete the original one. Then, rename the new one as before. In most case, it resolve those kind of problem.

If the field is a calculated field make sure there isn't a circular reference.

This often happens when retrofitting reports. For example, you might change the LastName field to display both first and last name ( = [Lastname] & ", " & [FirstName]) but don't change the name of the field. Access sees the circular reference and displays an error message.
