    Ms Access MDE Files

    Locked

    by tomosullivan ·

When I create a MDE file from an MDB database, the option to ‘save as/export’ is greyed out and
disabled on the toolbar and also when I right-click the mouse, when I’m viewing a report. Does anybody know how to re-enable this function??

One of the properties of the MDE file is that you can’t change/add forms & reports, see MS Access Help for Reference.
I guess that’s the reason why the option is greyed out.

We had an mde db and, as far as we know, we could use the save as/export function. We ran a security lockup routine on the db and then we lost this functionality. Thanks for your input.

For the first time I have made an MDE file and experimented with saving a report. I get the same greying-out as the complainant. I tried it on my MDB file and could save; what is saved is simply the report with a new name, not the output. One is making a new report, and that is clearly forbidden in an MDE database. Similarly, one cannot export the report from MDE because that would allow a user to steal the intellectual property one is trying to protect by giving the user MDE instead of MDB. Ifyou could do it before, something was wrong then, not now.

Thanks for answer. However I might leave the question up for a little while longer just in case someone out there knows some way of re-enabling this functionality.
