MS Exchange Setup Error ID no: c1030ad0

By ZX81 ·
During Setup of Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 on Windows 2000 advanced server, joining an existing Exchange 5.5 site running on a Windows NT 4.0 box
the following error is experienced:
Heading: "Microsoft Exchange Server Setup"
Text: "An error occurred during file replication. Unable to find a file with the correct version number. To view details of the error, see the application event log in the Windows NT Event Viewer on the Microsoft Exchange Server Computer.
Microsoft Exchnage Server Setup
ID no: c1030ad0"
I am unable to fing any reference to this error in Technet or anywhere else. Althought ID no: c1030ad1 is there.
Any help appreciated.

Re-run the install as custom, and deselect the cc:mail connector (and the msmail if you aren't using it), then reapply the service pack.

Here's all the rest of the information I could find:

This error can occur if the directory version of the proxy address generator (the File-Version object attribute) does not match the corresponding actual dynamic link library (.dll) file versionof the e-mail address generator.

To join the site, follow these steps on the existing server in the site. To upgrade Exchange Server by either applying a service pack or by upgrading to a newer version of Exchange Server, follow these steps on the server that you are upgrading:

1. Check the version of the proxy address generator .dll files that are located in the following locations:

- For Intel servers:
C:\Exchsrvr\Addresses\Ccmail\I386\Ccmproxy.dll
C:\Exchsrvr\Addresses\Ms\I386\Pcproxy.dll
C:\Exchsrvr\Addresses\SMTP\I386\Inproxy.dll
C:\Exchsrvr\Addresses\X400\I386\X400prox.dll

- For Alpha servers:
C:\Exchsrvr\Ccmail\Alpha\Ccmproxy.dll
C:\Exchsrvr\Ms\Alpha\Pcproxy.dll
C:\Exchsrvr\SMTP\Alpha\Inproxy.dll
C:\Exchsrvr\X400\Alpha\X400prox.dll

2. Compare the version number with the version found in the Exchange
Server Administrator program under Site\Configuration\Addressing
container. Select the E-Mail address generators object on the left hand
side. The right hand side will display the various Email address
generator installed on this system such as Internet E-mail address
generator for I386. Select the Email address generator that is listed
in the error message. When you click to select the properties of that
object, the Version information of that Dynamic Link Library will be
displayed.

3. If the version number is different, change the version number by
modifying the raw properties in Site\Configuration\Addressing in the
Administrator program to match the version number of the actual
corresponding .dll files.

Are already doing a custom install and the article does not apply as this error occurs during setup.

Install you Exchange 5.5 as on NT4 server and upgrade the OS to Win2K. That would save you having deal with conflicts as you will not be expected to install Exchange 5.5 on a Win2k server anyway.

Thanks for the idea, a little long winded. Exchange 5.5 should work on Win2K without having to do an upgrade!
