MS installer runs when opening office ap

I have a problem with users on the network that connect via a win2k terminal server. Every time they open an Office 2k app (also adobe reader), the microsoft installer tries to run. Is it something in the setup, or is there another problem. This is a win2k network with win2k pro clients, all service packs applied.
