MS Office still asks for CD...

By stacyben ·
We have a user here on a Win2000 laptop that was passed on to him by another user. I unfortunately don't know much of the history of it, and I do not like Win2000, as I feel it is overly cumbersome for an average workstation. Now that user b has thelaptop, MS Office is being weird with email attachments. Working on the desktop, Office is fine, and it is fine when receiving attachments. However, when SENDING an email with a Word or Excel attachmant, etc it always asks for the Office CD to be inserted. You can click "cancel" and it goes ahead and sends it, but it is still rather annoying. I've checked permissions and don't see anything that needs to be changed there. Any suggestions? Please??

Some updated information ...the previous user had Office 2000 PRO on the laptop (personal copy). It was removed and 2000 STANDARD was used to replace it. Evidently, Outlook Express is still associating Word or Excel attachments/ files with PRO. So the question is, how do I change what Outlook Express is expecting to see?

You would need to set up Outlook from the Office 2000 CD to be the default mail handler. Install Outlook and follow the prompts once it opens to make it the default for your mail program.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

He prefers Outlook Express ..I would like a solution that allowed Outlook Express and the correct version of Word to work.
