MS Outlook 2003 – very slow attaching files to new messages from desktop

Hi,

When creating a new message using Outlook 2003, I can add an attachment from the My Documents folder instantly by clicking on the paperclip icon or INSERT –> FILE, but if I try to attach a file from the Desktop in the same manner Outlook takes 3 – 4 min before it is ready to continue. Outlook is totally unresponsive during that time. If I copy and paste the document from the desktop to the new e-mail message as an attachment Outlook adds the file instantly. The files are small 50 to 100 kb txt files.

I found nothing on Microsoft?s website that would explain why Outlook takes so long to attach a file to a new e-mail message from the desktop.

I have tried the following:
– MS Office 2003 repair tool
– uninstalling MS Office 2003 then reinstalling it again
– set the path in Windows to include the desktop
– and at the suggestion of a colleague I have turned off the Indexing Service.
